If a sentencing court desires additional information from a court-appointed expert, rather than communicate ex parte with the expert, it must either (1) make a written request for a supplemental report and provide it to the parties in accordance with 18 USC 3552(d), or (2) bring the expert into court to be questioned in the presence of the parties.
