United States Eleventh Circuit

Fraser v. Smith, 08-10680

In a personal injury action based on a boat accident in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the dismissal of the action for lack of personal jurisdiction is affirmed where 1) a defendant did not confer general jurisdiction on the courts of Florida by occasionally soliciting business there; 2) the district court lacked specific jurisdiction over defendant because its advertising, and its purchase of and repairs to its boat, in the U.S. were not related to plaintiff's death.
