United States Eleventh Circuit
US v. Thompson, 05-15052
Conviction of drug- and firearm-related crimes, with mandatory life sentence, is affirmed over principal claims that: 1) the district court erred in denying defendant's motion for a judgment of acquittal because no rational jury could have found beyond a reasonable doubt that he possessed the drugs and firearms that were seized; and 2) enhancements were erroneously applied to the sentence under 21 U.S.C. section 841(b)(1)(A)(iii) as the government did not properly serve defendant with notice as required by 21 U.S.C. section 851(a)(1).
