Court of Criminal Appeals of Texas

Watkins v. State of Texas, 1438-06

A court of appeals decision affirming a conviction for burglary of a habitation is affirmed over claims that the court of appeals: 1) conducted an inadequate analysis of a claim that the state exercised a number of its peremptory challenges to remove African-American panelists on account of their race, in light of the opinion in Miller-El v. Dretke, 545 U.S. 231 (2005); and 2) ignored many of the arguments explaining how the record establishes purposeful discrimination.
