Court of Appeals of New York
Greater New York Taxi Ass'n v. State of New York, 98
In consolidated challenges to the constitutionality of chapter 602 of the Laws of 2011, as amended by chapter 9 of the Laws of 2012 (HAIL Act), which regulates medallion taxicabs (or "yellow cabs") and livery vehicles, the Supreme Court's conclusion that the HAIL Act violates the Municipal Home Rule Clause is reversed, where the HAIL Act is constitutional because it: 1) addresses a matter of substantial State concern; and 2) bears a reasonable relationship to that State concern.
