A conditional release should not be used to extend an involuntarily committed individual's Thiem release date, which is the date corresponding to the maximum length of time that the individual would have been required to serve before becoming eligible for parole if he had been convicted of, and received the maximum sentence for, the most serious crime for which he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
