Supreme Court of Illinois
People v. Woods, 97659
Conviction for possession of a controlled substance is affirmed where a chain-of-custody issue is an evidentiary matter which should be raised at trial to avoid waiver by procedural default and, although it is possible that a defect in showing chain of custody could be so great as to constitute failure to prove an offense element, this was not the case since the State had made a prima facie showing that proper police inventory procedures were followed.
