Supreme Court of California
In re Masters, 130495
Denied habeas corpus relief. Masters was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. His judgment was affirmed in an automatic appeal. He then petitioned the court seeking a writ of habeas corpus. The court found that the petition stated a prima facie case on which relief may be granted and issued an order to show cause. A referee was appointed to take evidence and make findings. The referee’s findings supported the trial court’s verdict. The Court held that Masters had not met the standards upon which relief could be granted.
