Supreme Court of California
People v. Gonzales, 240044
Held that a defendant who was convicted of several counts of forgery was eligible to have those felonies reclassified as misdemeanors. The defendant argued that his forgery felonies were eligible for reclassification under Proposition 47 even though he was also convicted of an entirely unrelated offense of identity theft. Agreeing, the California Supreme Court remanded the matter to the trial court for further proceedings on his request for resentencing.
