Supreme Court of California

People v. Espinoza, 224929

Conviction for drug possession and possessing firearms is affirmed where the trial court did not err in: 1) proceeding with the already-commenced trial after defendant had expressly waived his constitutional right to counsel and implicitly waived his right to be present by voluntarily absenting himself after the first day; 2) denying defendant's request for a one-day continuance made before he exercised his Faretta rights.
