Supreme Court of California

People v. Maciel, S070536

Defendant's convictions and death sentence for multiple first degree murders are affirmed, where: 1) defendant is not entitled to an evidentiary hearing to determine whether failure to advise him he had the right to consult the Mexican consulate was prejudicial; 2) the trial court did not err regarding the scope and duration of orders protecting certain witnesses' identifying information; 3) the trial court did not abuse its discretion when it denied defendant's motion to discharge retained counsel; 4) the evidence was sufficient to support the jury's finding defendant was guilty of the first degree murders; 5) the evidence was sufficient to support the multiple-murder special-circumstance true finding; and 6) defendant's remaining claims fail.
