Supreme Court of California
People v. Nelson, S181611
Conviction and sentencing of defendant-juvenile for first-degree murder and other related-offenses are upheld because a juvenile claiming a postwaiver invocation of their Miranda rights is subject to the Davis standard such that defendant's request to speak to his mother during custodial interrogations were not articulated sufficiently clearly that a reasonable police officer in the circumstances would understand the statements to be requests for an attorney.
