Supreme Court of California

CORREA v. SUPERIOR COURT OF ORANGE COUNTY (PEOPLE), S093476

A generally unbiased and adequately skilled translator simply serves as a "language conduit," so that the translated statement is considered to be the statement of the original declarant, and not that of the translator, thus there is no added layer of hearsay when police relate the statements of out-of-court declarants at a preliminary hearing.
