California Court of Appeal

Pasadena Police Officers Assn. v. Super. Ct., B260332

In a petition by the police for a writ to preclude disclosure of the entire or a heavily-redacted version of Report to the City of Pasadena Concerning the Officer-Involved Shooting of [unarmed teenager Kendrick] McDade" pursuant to California Public Records Act (PRA), Gov. Code section 6250 et seq., Cal. Const. art. I section 3(b), the petition is denied where: 1) the trial court correctly concluded that the Report itself is a public document; and 2) the court correctly determined that portions of the Report contain confidential personnel information exempt from disclosure under the PRA, however the trial court's redactions went too far.
