In an appeal of an order committing defendant as a sexually violent predator (SVP) under the Sexually Violent Predators Act (SVPA), Welf. & Inst. Code section 660 et seq., the order is: 1) affirmed over claims that the trial court abused its discretion in denying his request for a continuance of his trial; but 2) remanded on an equal protection claim to afford the People the opportunity to justify the differential treatment of SVP's and people found not guilty of crimes by reason of insanity (NGI) at hearings to extend his/her commitment.
