California Court of Appeal

Conti v. Watchtower Bible null; Tract Society of N.Y., Inc., A136641

In an action against a church for damages for sexual abuse plaintiff sustained as a child by another member of the congregation, the trial court's award of compensatory damages is affirmed, but the imposition of punitive damages is reversed where defendant had no duty to warn the congregation or plaintiff's parents that the perpetrator had molested a child. Defendants can, however, be held liable for filing to limit and supervise the perpetrator's "field service," during which he molested the victim.
