California Court of Appeal

People v. Martin, B242447

A juvenile defendant's sentence of two consecutive life terms for numerous crimes, including attempted murder is affirmed, where: 1) newly enacted Penal Code section 3051 affords youth offenders a parole hearing at an earlier age than had they been an adult; and 2) defendant's sentence is therefore constitutional because it is not the "functional equivalent" of life without parole.
