People v. Poulsom, D060779

Order committing defendant to state hospital after finding that he was a sexually violent predator (SVP) under the Sexually Violent Predators Act is affirmed, where: 1) substantial evidence supports both the jury's finding of a material change in circumstance and its true finding that defendant qualifies as an SVP under the Act; and 2) a proceeding under the Act is a special proceeding of a civil nature, and therefore pursuant to Code of Civ. Proc. section 231(c), defendant was entitled to only six peremptory challenges.
