California Court of Appeal

In re Joey G., D059598

In a case in which a minor had been convicted of misdemeanor grand theft of a cell phone and then ordered detained as a ward of the juvenile court, it is held that the trial court abused its discretion when it failed to obtain and consider a joint report pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code section 241.1 and make a determination as to whether the status of ward or dependent would best serve the minor's interests.
