In a petition for a writ of mandate seeking to vacate an order of the trial court granting a motion to compel petitioner to produce five of its employees, who are residents of Japan for deposition in California, in an underlying products liability action, petition is granted where the trial court has no authority to compel such non-residents to attend depositions because the residency limitation of Code of Civil Procedure section 1989 applies not only to trials, but also to discovery.
