People v. Sandoval, C055671

In a prosecution for possession of illegal drugs, denial of defendant's motion to suppress drug evidence from a patdown search is reversed where: 1) defendant was searched while sitting outside the entrance of a targeted residential search by a veteran narcotics officer who recognized defendant from previous contacts in drug-related incidents; but 2) prior to the patdown search, the officer had no reason to believe defendant was armed, committing a crime, or had any history of violence.
