California Court of Appeal

Canister v. Emergency Ambulance Serv., B190318

In case where plaintiff-police officer was injured while accompanying an arrestee in the back of defendant's ambulance when it hit a curb, defense judgment is affirmed as emergency medical technicians are health care providers protected by the Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act, and negligence in operating an ambulance qualifies as professional negligence when EMTs are rendering services that are identified with human health and for which they are licensed.
