California Court of Appeal

Maranatha Corrs., LLC v. Dep't of Corr. & Rehab., C053293

In case involving published letter terminating state contract with private prison contractor on grounds including misappropriation of public funds, order granting defendants' special motion to strike defamation-based causes of action and awarding attorney's fees is affirmed over claims that the trial court erred in: 1) awarding attorney's fees; 2) finding that the defamation causes of action were protected by the anti-SLAPP statute; and 3) in ruling that the director's communications were absolutely privileged.
