California Court of Appeal

Verdict against defendant highway patrol officers for retaliating against plaintiff after he complained about an officer's improper conduct, awarding economic, noneconomic, and punitive damages, and attorney fees, is affirmed to the extent substantial evidence supported liability, however, the punitive damage awards are stricken as excessive and in violation of federal constitutional principles, and the case is remanded.
