KESANIA POWELL v. NELNET, INC.
ORDER
Plaintiff Kesania Powell filed an unopposed motion to extend the deadline to respond to Nelnet's motion for sanctions. Dkt. 102.
It is ORDERED that the motion to extend time, Dkt. 102, is GRANTED. Powell's response is due March 21, 2025.
The parties are reminded that the court possesses the power to impose sanctions sua sponte. Chambers v. NASCO, Inc., 501 U.S. 32, 42 n.8 (1991). That is in part because the court's authority “transcends [its] equitable power concerning relations between the parties and reaches a court's inherent power to police itself.” Id. at 46. For that reason, a response from Powell on the question of sanctions may be required even if Nelnet withdraws its motion for sanctions. Any such response would be ordered at a later date.
So ORDERED and SIGNED this 6th day of February, 2025.
Bill Davis United States Magistrate Judge
