The State of Oklahoma ex rel. State Board of Examiners of Certified Court Reporters, Complainant, v. Susan Johnson, Respondent.
ORDER OF IMMEDIATE INTERIM SUSPENSION
The Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters (“Board”) requests this Court to order the immediate interim suspension of Court Reporter Susan Johnson (“Respondent”) pursuant to the Rules Governing Disciplinary Proceedings of the State Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters, 20 O.S., Ch. 20, App. II, Rule 6(c). Rule 6(c) provides: “Upon receipt of sufficient evidence that a court reporter has engaged in conduct indicating that he or she is unfit to practice court reporting, and where such conduct poses an immediate threat of public harm, the Board may, in its discretion, request the Supreme Court to order the immediate interim suspension of that court reporter.”
In its Request, the Board alleges that it has received sufficient evidence that Respondent has engaged in conduct indicating that she is unfit to practice court reporting and that her conduct poses an immediate threat of public harm. The alleged conduct includes failing to timely produce transcripts in several independent proceedings and being charged with indirect contempt of court at least twice for this pattern of conduct. The Board states that Respondent's pattern of such failure and unreliability has caused unnecessary delays and additional costs and time. The Board attached to its Request, as Exhibit 1, Respondent Johnson's Initial Response to the Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters. The Board attached its Complaint as Exhibit 2. The Board has set this matter for a formal evidentiary hearing on August 12, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. pursuant to 20 O.S., Ch. 20, App. II, Rule 6(c). This Court has reviewed the Request for Interim Suspension and attached exhibits and grants the Request for Interim Suspension.
IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that Respondent Susan Johnson is immediately suspended as a certified shorthand reporter. Respondent Johnson is directed to appear before the Board on
August 12, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oklahoma Judicial Center, 2100 North Lincoln Boulevard, Room E123, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105, to show cause why the interim suspension should be set aside.
DONE BY ORDER OF THE SUPREME COURT IN CONFERENCE ON JULY 17, 2026.
CONCUR: ROWE, C.J., KUEHN, V.C.J., WINCHESTER, EDMONDSON, COMBS, GURICH, DARBY, AND JETT, JJ. DISSENTS: KANE, J.
