JOHN E. LEE v. LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND CORRECTIONS
This court has allowed applicants in recent high-profile cases to bypass the intermediate court of appeal. See Crockett v. State of Louisiana, 26-0594 (La. May 14, 2026) (order); Calhoun v. Landry, 25-00316 (La. 3/18/25), 403 So.3d 521; Scott v. Louisiana State Police, 24-01591 (La. 1/9/25), 398 So.3d 634. Yet, every week this court denies writs of self-represented litigants who have similarly done the same. The majority's action in this case is another example of that disparate treatment. Justice has to be even handed, transparent, predictable, and available to all. Anything less undermines the integrity and independence of the Judiciary. The rule of law dictates that no man is above the law or beneath the law, and that every party should have the same access to justice. For these reasons, I dissent.
GUIDRY, J., dissents and assigns reasons.
