STATE OF LOUISIANA v. BURNELL GORDON
Defendant was initially indicted for second degree murder with bond set for $300,000. He was found guilty of the lesser offense of manslaughter by a non-unanimous jury necessitating a retrial under Ramos v. Louisiana, 590 U.S. 83, 140 S.Ct. 1390 (2020). The State subsequently indicted on manslaughter, yet the trial court set bail at $500,000. Questioning the incongruity of the significant increase in bail considering the lesser indicted offense, I would grant the writ.
GRIFFIN, J., would grant and assigns reasons.
