THE FLORIDA BAR v. ALEXIS FRANCISCO CARTER JR (2025)

PUBLIC REPRIMAND

Alexis Francisco Carter Jr., the Supreme Court of Florida, by order dated August 21, 2025, has directed that you receive a public reprimand in writing by the undersigned as the appointed referee in this disciplinary proceeding.

You were found to be in violation of Rules 3-4.3 (Misconduct and Minor Misconduct), 4-1.3 (Diligence), 4-1.4(a) and (b) (Communication), 4-1.16(d) (Declining or Terminating Representation), and 4-8.4(d) (Misconduct) of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar.

This discipline arises from your representation of a client charged in a criminal matter. During the course of your representation, you failed to act with reasonable diligence, and you failed to sufficiently communicate with the client. You also failed to timely and properly withdraw from the client's case upon your change in employment. Lastly, you failed to ensure that your employment information was accurate in response to the bar's inquiries.

Your conduct shows a disregard for the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar. Your failure to live up to your professional and ethical obligations under the Rules of The Florida Bar reflects not only on you, but on the integrity and competence of all members of the legal profession. By engaging in such conduct, you have demeaned the legal profession, and such conduct will not be tolerated. The members of your profession have the right to expect that you will conduct yourself in a manner that will support respect for the legal profession and instill public confidence in lawyers and the legal system.

This reprimand is now a part of your permanent Florida Bar record. You are further advised that while this reprimand does not affect your privilege of practicing law, further misconduct will. The lawyers of Florida expect your future conduct to always be in compliance with your oath and the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar.

I trust that from this point forward your professional conduct will help preserve our profession and be in compliance with our code. Pride in your profession and self-respect should encourage you in this regard.
