IN RE: Leon County Grand Jury Presentment, Fall of 2025, Petitioners.
BY ORDER OF THE COURT:
On August 12, 2026, Jeff Aaron, Cody Farrill, John Guard, Amy Ronshausen, Save Our Society from Drugs, Inc., Secure Florida's Future, Andrew Sheeran, Katie Strickland, Attorney General James Uthmeier, Frank Walker, Jason Weida, and Mark Wilson (Petitioners) filed a petition seeking an extraordinary writ from this Court. Petitioners sought to quash the trial court's order that permitted State Attorney Jack Campbell to reveal the pendency of confidential grand jury proceedings in the lower court and any appeal filed in this Court. Petitioners sought to maintain confidentiality of the grand jury proceedings pending disposition of the appeals in case number 1D2026-2435. Those appeals sought to challenge the trial court's order on Petitioners’ motions to expunge or repress the presentment issued by the grand jury. The State conceded that the petition should be granted.
On August 25, 2026, this Court granted the petition and issued a writ of injunction, enjoining disclosure of the confidential grand jury proceedings in the trial court and in this Court. The extraordinary writ was issued to maintain the confidential status of the grand jury proceedings and to protect this Court's jurisdiction to provide relief in the appeal filed by the State of Florida * and the cross-appeal filed by Petitioners in case number 1D2026-2435. The same day the opinion was issued, State Attorney Jack Campbell was personally served with the writ and ordered to maintain the confidentiality of the grand jury proceedings pending this Court's disposition of the appeals in case number 1D2026-2435.
The Court initially issued its August 25, 2026 disposition as an unpublished opinion. But the Court noted in the opinion that once the appeals in the related case were decided, the Court could publish the opinion on its own motion, or upon motion of a party.
An opinion disposing of the appeal in case number 1D2026-2435 is being issued today, October 7, 2026. The appeal having been decided, the Court on its own motion directs the Clerk of Court to publish the opinion issued in the petition case on August 25, 2026, along with the writ issued the same date.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the above order is issued at the Court's direction.
