California Court of Appeal

Regent Alliance v. Rabizadeh, B244652

In this conversion case, plaintiff sued three purchasers of children’s clothing, alleging that the purchasers bought, from other defendants, clothing belonging to plaintiff that those other defendants had converted. Summary judgment in favor of defendants is reversed, where: 1) defendants concede that they purchased converted goods; 2) innocent purchasers of converted goods can be held liable for conversion; and 3) the cases cited by the buyer defendants (Oakdale Village Group v. Fong, Irving Nelkin & Co. v. South Beverly Hills Wilshire Jewelry & Loan) do not support their contention that innocent purchasers of converted goods cannot be liable for conversion.
